Taking some similarities from a previous status board I did, I decided it was time to make one for my web projects to be able to keep on top of everything. The above has three columns of project status – Potentials, Queue, and Active that pull from a MySQL table via PHP/jQuery. The Active column then pulls from either Freshbooks or Activecollab Project Management to determine a percentage complete. If via Freshbooks, it calculates total budgeted hours vs. time logged, and if Activecollab, it displays percentage of tasks/milestones completed for the project. Of course the bottom row pulls from a Google Calendar, the Weather, and a webcam so I know when the dog needs to be let out!
Last but not least, in the bottom left corner is a value pulled from Freshbooks to show the balance of unpaid invoices.
The board is displayed on a 24″ LCD TV driven by a Logitech Revue using GoogleTV built in full screen Chrome web browser. I really wanted to get a SmartTV so that everything was in one piece of hardware, however couldn’t find an economical TV that had a built in web browser. The Revue also serves as a handy Pandora playback system too so music can stream via that and not waste browser tabs/resources on the main machine.
I’ve been building some fun custom status boards / information radiators / project board / status panel / etc. these days. If you are interested in having a custom status board built for your company or application, let us know at Sators.com!
